2015 National German Exam Registration 
Each year the National German Exam is administered to over 20,000 students in the second, third, and fourth level of German in nearly 700 schools nationwide. As a teacher of German, you know it is important to maximize opportunities to bring recognition to your program. The National German Exam honors student performance with Gold, Silver, and Bronze Awards and an array of prizes including the AATG/PAD Study Trip Award!
 
Register Students. Order and register online in three easy steps--and this year, you can easily upload your student roster when registering. You can find a step-by-step tutorial on how to register at www.aatg.org.
 
Exam Cost. Exam fees remain $5.00 per student. Register now!
 
Exam Format. The Exam uses authentic materials that are accessible, interesting, and engaging for high school students. Question types include multiple choice, matching, and true/false. The 2015 Exam does NOT include any text completion questions. The exams are comprised of 100 questions divided into two sections, each forty minutes long.
 
Exam Delivery. The Exam administration is December 1, 2014 through February 2, 2015. The National German Exam is delivered online in an electronic format. To take the Exam, each student needs access to a computer or tablet connected to the Internet. 
 
Free Practice Exams. Two complete practice exams for each level of the NGE are available on our website. Experience the exams.

Workshops (will be offered consecutively):
Werbung für Deutsch (K-16)
In this workshop, participants will learn about strategies, best practices and ideas to advertise and strengthen their German programs. The presenter Anja Schmitt will also explain the role of the Deutschberater in USA and the Goethe-Institut’s current advertising campaign “Just add German”. Participants will receive material.
 
Writing at all levels (K-16)
The second seminar focuses on various forms of writings for all levels and their integration into the foreign language curriculum. Creative writing assignments will be introduced and explored that may be used in your classrooms the following week. Participants will receive material.

Anja Schmitt, M.A.
Anja Schmitt is an Expertin für Unterricht (ExU) and Beraterin für Deutschunterricht (BDU) at the Goethe-Institut Chicago. She supports German teachers in the states of the Upper Midwest. Anja has a degree from the Universität des Saarlandes (Saarbrücken) in German and French and has extensive experience in German schools and universities in the area of linguistics and German as a foreign language.

Westside High School in Omaha, NE (http://whs.westside66.org/) is looking for a full-time German teacher to take over a successful German 1 - 5th year (AP) program for fall 2014.  The Program includes a strong GAPP program, German Club, German Honor Society and participation in the National German Exam.   The middle school teacher is very dynamic and enthusiastic and has steadily increased the high school enrollment. 
The school is anxious to move along quickly as new teachers begin the last week of July.  The program is in danger of being dropped if the school district cannot find a teacher.

Job Summary/Basic Function:
The Department of Foreign Languages and Literature at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee invites applications for an open rank position in German literature to strengthen its program. Successful candidate will participate in the interdepartmental M.A. program, and will serve as coordinator for German and its associated study abroad programs.

Minimum Qualifications:
Candidates must have the Ph.D. in hand by the time of employment, a demonstrated record of scholarly publications, and native or near-native fluency in German.

Preferred Qualifications:
Preferred qualifications include: extensive experience in teaching contemporary German literature, culture, and language at all levels, experience in supervising and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students.

440 Minnesota Students Take the National German Exam

Over 21,000 high school students in four different levels took the newly designed exam – 440 from Minnesota. The Exam provides individual diagnostic feedback, creates a sense of accomplishment, and rewards students through an extensive prize program. Exam results are among the criteria used in selecting the recipients of chapter awards and the national AATG/PAD Study Trip Awards, a four-week study trip program in Germany.

The Saint John's Prep German Camp is an entertaining program that allows the camper to grow, learn and have fun in a supportive, creative environment. Daily activities encourage campers to study the German language, discover the differences in cultures and meet new friends.
Campers receive individualized attention and work closely with counselors and each other in small group settings.

CALL FOR PROPOSALS -- FALL CONFERENCE 2014
Diversity, Equity, & World Languages: Empowering Teachers for Change

Do you have a passion for teaching diverse learners? Do you have experience helping all of your students succeed? MCTLC would like to invite you to share your knowledge and strategies with other language teachers from around the state. Proposals are now being accepted for one-hour sessions at the 2014 Fall Conference on Friday, October 24th as well as three-hour post conference workshops on Saturday, October 25th. Preference will be given to sessions and workshops that address the conference theme, but proposals addressing any topic of interest and value to world language educators will be considered.

The Call for Proposals will remain open until Tuesday, April 1.  The primary presenter will receive notification of proposal acceptance by May 15 via email from President-Elect Kay Edberg with further instructions to register for the conference with their exclusive presenter discount code. The primary presenter serves as our contact person and is responsible for distributing all instructions to their co-presenters. Presenters and co-presenters agree to register by July 1; sessions of unregistered presenters will not be included in the program.

Our conference depends on Minnesota language professionals' talents and willingness to share them. We commend and thank you for stepping forward.

Featuring remarks by Christa Tiefenbacher-Hudson, Honorary Consul of the Federal Republic of Germany.
Along with a “German Travelogue” and the story of “Making of the Giggel”
The Shoreview Einhausen Sister City Association (SESCA) is pleased to announce the 12th annual German dinner. Our program will feature a presentation by Christa Tiefenbacher-Hudson, a travelogue of various areas of Germany along with a presentation on the making of the Giggel (Rooster). Follow the creation of Einhausen’s latest mascot from its humble beginnings, along a 6000 mile journey to its new home.

Place: Gasthaus Bavarian Hunter located at 8390 Lofton Ave N., Stillwater, MN
Time: 5:00 pm Social time – cash bar
6:00 pm German-style buffet dinner

Cost for this event is $30.00 per person for adults and $20.00 for college or high school students and those under the age of 18. The dinner and program is open to all. However, advance registration is required. Seating is limited so early registration is encouraged.
Directions to the Gasthaus Bavarian Hunter: From Interstate Hwy 94 go north on Hwy 694 to Hwy 36. Go East on Hwy 36. At Manning Ave go left and then go left at McKusick Ave. Drive approximately 1/4 miles and take the first left. The Gasthaus Bavarian Hunter is the third driveway on the right.
