This program, offered by the Center for German and European Studies <http://cges.umn.edu/>  (CGES) at the University of Minnesota (Twin Cities), which is a German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) Center of Excellence, offers  up to 10 German educators (both primary and secondary) the opportunity to visit Minnesota, while encouraging participants to refine their teaching skills and broaden their knowledge of student identities in the classroom through structured collaboration with Minnesota educators.

Migrations are changing our classrooms and students are struggling with managing multiple identities in a complex global world.  German teachers will collaborate with Minnesota teachers to discuss the challenges brought to the classroom from global migration. We will talk about questions such as how does having students from multiple backgrounds affect our classrooms in both good and challenging ways?  In order to help students capture their own stories of migration, German teachers will have the opportunity to learn about digital storytelling and learn technical skills to use free online resources.   German teachers will also have the opportunity to tour culturally important places in Minnesota as well as spend several days staying with a host teacher and visiting area schools.

What do we need from you as a Minnesota educator?

* In order to make this program a success, we need Minnesota teachers who are willing to host a German teacher for Friday night, October 21 through Tuesday evening October 25th.  Minnesota teachers will pick up the German teacher from a hotel near the University of Minnesota West Bank Friday, and bring them back Tuesday evening, October 25th for the workshop on Social Movements and Identity.
* Minnesota host teachers must

* Attend a welcome dinner Monday night, October 17, 2015 from 5:30-7:30 pm at the University of Minnesota.
* Pick up the German teacher from Days University Hotel  Friday, October 21, 2016 (MEA weekend).
* Bring visiting German teacher to your school Monday-Tuesday, October 24-25, 2016.

* Bring German teachers to youthrive office Tuesday, October 25, from 5:30-7:30 for workshop on Social Movements and Identity and stay for whole workshop (dinner will be included).

In return, host teachers will receive 2 CEUS, 2 awesome dinners,  an Amazon.com gift card in appreciation of volunteer services, parking vouchers for University of Minnesota ramps during dinner and workshops, and most importantly, will enjoy the opportunity to develop meaningful, professional friendships with educators from Germany.

Register here <https://goo.gl/forms/WlEKtpRodiMzVk3W2>  to be a host for Global Migrations, to attend the Welcome Dinner and to attend the workshop on October 25th.

Great Opportunities to Present a Talk -- Deadline April 15, 2014 -- Get Involved in State Activities!

Thank you, Anita Ratwik, for the following:

Central States Conference (on the Teaching of Foreign Languages) i.e. CSCTFL, will be in Minneapolis March 12- 14, 2015.
It is co-sponsored by MCTLC. CSC is one of the five regional organizations of ACTFL. CSC's web address is www.CSCTFL.org

We especially want to have sessions for German teachers and to have good attendance by world language teachers in Minnesota. This conference includes 17 states, and we expect close to 1000 participants. All right in our own backyard!

Please consider presenting a session. The website for proposals is http://www.web-reg.com/csc-prop/
The deadline for submission is April 15, 2014.  You can even do one presentation at the MCTLC conference in October 2014 and use the same one for CSC 2015 the following March!

This conference will also require many volunteers from Minnesota. I will send out information as that time comes closer. Please consider volunteering. It is one of the best ways to get to know other language teachers and networking. Participants and presenters to CSC come from all 17 CSC members states, plus many additional states.

This year's CSC conference is in St Louis, MO, March 20-22, 2014. In preparation for CSC 2015, we are responsible for an exhibit booth at this year's conference. We need volunteers to help staff that booth. If any of you will be at CSC 2014 in St Louis, please consider helping staff that booth for a couple of hours. No need to bring anything, but a smile and energy to talk with perspective attendees who might also want information about Minneapolis and Minnesota.

If you are willing, please contact Anita Ratwik, at ratwi001@umn.edu

Lots to think about, many opportunities.
Thank you.

Interviews will take place on Saturday, March 2nd, on the campus of the College of Saint Benedict in St Joseph, MN.
Coffee and rolls will warm you up at 8:00 a.m. Orientation for interviewers begins at 8:30. Interviews are 9:00 - 11:45. 12:00- ca. 2:00 interviewers meet to have lunch, determine rankings, and choose nominees for trip awards.  Teachers whose students participated in the testing are, of course, not eligible to serve as interviewers.

Please contact Lisa Ohm at LOhm@csbsju.edu  or
Jae Cody at margaret.cody@district196.org if you are able to help!
