ORGANIZATION SUMMARY: The Germanic-American Institute is a local non-profit, whose mission includes educational programs for German language and culture.  

JOB TITLE:   Kinderstube Preschool Director              

LOCATION:   There are 2 preschool locations:
Mayflower Church: Minneapolis; I- 35E and Diamond Lake Road
GAI: 301 Summit Avenue, St. Paul

Position Summary
The primary responsibility of the preschool director is administration and oversight of staff and daily operations of the Kinderstube German Immersion Preschool

Start Wage: $17-$20/hour DOE                           

Hours:  25 flexible hours/Monday-Friday week.  There is the possibility of full employment for director/teacher combination                            

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Work with staff at both sites to maintain a safe and healthy, child-centered environment that is in compliance with all state licensing day care requirements.

Hire and provide supervision, support and regular evaluation of Kinderstube staff.

Serve as the main contact person with prospective and currently enrolled families. This includes phone calls, tours, and child enrollment.

Ensure that children and staff records are complete and in compliance with licensing.

Oversee development/implementation of an enhanced pre-school curriculum that includes building German language skills.

Maintain the Kinderstube budget through oversight of personnel costs and other expenses.

Secondary duties

Model for teachers expected methodology and interactions with the children

Fill in as classroom teacher as needed.

Update and maintain Kinderstube documents, including the family and the teacher handbook.

Other duties related to the Kinderstube program as assigned by the GAI Executive Director.


Minimum Qualifications:
Experience working with children ages 3-5

A bachelor’s degree in Education or German,  or associates degree in Early Childhood or equivalent

At least one year teaching and/or management experience in a school program, preferably preschool.

Fluency in German preferred, but will consider strong candidates without it.

Announcing the addition of FIVE First-Time Attendee Scholarships in 2013

MCTLC is pleased to offer five (5) first-time attendee fall conference scholarships to world language teachers.

Teachers who meet the criteria may self-nominate or may be nominated by a colleague or administrator.

Criteria:
Nominee must be in their first three (3) years of teaching a world language;
  1. Nominee must be a first-time attendee to an MCTLC Fall Conference; and
  2. Nominee must be a paid regular member of MCTLC upon nomination.

DEADLINE: September 15

The German American Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce the seventh Transatlantic Program - Young Technology Leaders delegation focused on "Automotive R&D." TAP-YTL will offer 12 select participants the chance to explore cutting-edge developments and innovations in automobile design and production during an intensive, 8-day trip throughout Germany from November 10-18, 2013.

The German automotive industry is characterized by strong, high-value technologies and the skillful adaptation of cutting-edge technologies that have proved very successful in the global economy and made Germany a world leader in the automotive market. With its newly introduced "Lust auf Technik" (Passion for Technology) concept, Germany is fully committed to supporting innovation and research. Major OEMs and companies throughout the supply chain play a key role in maintaining Germany's leading position and stay at the forefront of R&D by working closely with research institutions and universities.

Participants will:
  • Visit key players in the German automotive industry, leading research institutions, and personally meet engineers that are driving the next generation of German automotive innovations.
  • They'll learn from industry experts as they expand on such topics as advanced materials, light-weighting, mechatronics systems, e-mobility, and advanced powertrain systems.

Applicants should have study and/or have work experience in engineering, the automotive industry, German, or a related field. Candidates with different backgrounds that feel they can offer a unique contribution to the program will be considered on a case-by-case basis. We encourage and accept applications from any candidate who might be well-suited for this opportunity.
