Program Description:
The Germanic-American
Institute in St. Paul, Minnesota is seeking an instructor for a new
after-school, extra-curricular German program at Kenwood School, a K-5
elementary school located near Lake of the Isles in southwest Minneapolis.
The emphasis of the GAI
children’s language program is natural acquisition of language in an
interactive, fun environment. A standard
routine is adhered to in our classes, which incorporates listening and speaking,
singing, crafts, games, physical motion, and story time.
Instruction and class
activities will be conducted primarily in German, with emphasis on oral
language development. Children with
minimal prior exposure to German will acquire basic communication skills and
general vocabulary pertaining to the topics presented. Simple worksheets with reading and writing
will be provided to reinforce skills throughout the week.
For the fall term, classes
meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2-3pm beginning October 1st. Meeting dates will be in conjunction with the
Minneapolis Public Schools calendar, with the last session on January 16,
2014. Minimum class size is 10 students

Qualifications
and Responsibilities:
Teacher must be a native or
native-like German speaker able to demonstrate successful experience teaching
language to elementary-aged children. Curriculum development will be required,
as well as one parent presentation near the end of each semester to showcase
students’ progress. The ideal candidate
will be a dynamic, energetic teacher able to relate well to children while
simultaneously keeping them interested in German and maintaining classroom
discipline.
